Martha Skelley

Martha has always been fascinated with the soil beneath her feet. While attending Warren Wilson College (Swannanoa, NC), she fell in love with cows and grass and learned of the benefits of good grazing management on soil health. She graduated asking questions about aridity and how anyone could raise cattle out “West”. She found Quivira’s apprenticeship program, still in its early years, and applied for an apprenticeship with San Juan Ranch. She joined San Juan Ranch in 2012, where she apprenticed and learned more than she ever expected. Her experience with NAP and the QC community launched her land and livestock management career and prepared her to help manage three operations over the past seven years. Martha is Livestock Manager for Paicines Ranch, Paicines California.
