Scott Perez, who grew up in a Midwest farming community, came west in 1976 and began a 25-year career as a working cowboy and guide. In 2000, he returned to college for a bachelor’s degree from Fort Lewis College and a master’s from Cornell University, where he also taught natural resources management and American Indian studies. He has returned to Colorado, where he grows and researches hemp, guides tours, and tries not to make a general nuisance of himself.
