2020 Intro to Mentoring Workshop
August 17, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm MDT
New Agrarian Program Mentor Training
CALL TIMES AND DATES:
Intro to Mentoring
In-Depth Mentor Training
If you are in the process of becoming a mentor or are interested in learning more about what it means to be a mentor with the Quivira Coalition’s New Agrarian Program (NAP), we invite you to attend one of our three free online Mentor Training sessions.
The first two calls (June 15th and July 22nd) will provide an overview of the New Agrarian program and what it means to become a mentor. The “Intro to Mentoring” calls will be co-facilitated by NAP’s founding mentor, Julie Sullivan and one of our regional program coordinators. Julie and her husband George Whitten are owner-operators of the San Juan Ranch in the San Luis Valley where they have been hosting apprentices for over a decade. These calls are an opportunity to learn more about the nuts and bolts of the program, ask questions of our staff and an experienced mentor and think about how an apprentice might fit into your own operation.
The “In-depth Mentor Training Call” on August 17th will build on the introductory calls and focus how to create a successful apprenticeship on your operation. We will cover topics such as: establishing expectations, open communication, balancing work and education etc. We will also walk you through the hiring process from how to write a description of your operation and the opportunity you are providing, to how to read applications and conduct interviews. This call is designed to help new mentors feel prepared to begin the hiring process in early fall. It is not designed to be exhaustive as all new mentors are also required to participate in our seven session Mentor Training Call Series from October – April of their first year with the program.
If you would like more information about any of the mentor training calls or have additional questions about the New Agrarian Program please email Alexis Bonogofsky (New Agrarian Northern Coordinator) at firstname.lastname@example.org Jill Rice (New Agrarian Southwest Coordinator) at email@example.com.
