How did you get interested in agriculture? And what are you hoping to gain from your apprenticeship?May 2026

Agriculture has been a part of my life for as long as my memory serves me. I was born on a soybean and dairy farm in Paraguay, and the memories of this time played an formative role in establishing my love and respect for everything that is agriculture. My family and I moved to Michigan when I was 5 years old. There, I was fortunate to be raised in a largely agricultural community with generous community members and family who kept the spark of agriculture alive within myself. During my teenage years, my family bought a small farm in Southwest Michigan primarily raising lamb and pastured poultry/eggs.

Prior to this apprenticeship, I worked as a registered nurse in various emergency departments for roughly 11 years. During college, my interest in the sciences was rekindled, primarily in biology, physiology, and microbiology. This led me down a path of curiosity and thinking of agriculture in a different light. Alan Savory’s TED Talk was what I recall as the most impactful and paradigm shifting moment that began this connection of my scientific interests to regenerative agriculture and the possibilities that exist. My career plan was to continue with nursing and then towards the later part of my life shift to agriculture. But the time came when I realized that it’s time to speed up the transition plan which brought me here.

What I hope to gain in this apprenticeship is clarity on future agricultural endeavors and possibilities that exist in this space. And while I’m on the lookout for these, I also intend to fully appreciate and be present in the day to day operations of ranching.
