How did you get interested in agriculture? And what are you hoping to gain from your apprenticeship? May 2026

I grew up in Cheyenne, WY, and while I didn’t grow up in a ranching family, I was surrounded by traditional ranching culture. I spent my summers outside, going to rodeos, riding horses with friends and hanging out in the mountains. As I got older, I decided not to go to college and instead spend some time figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I started asking around looking for opportunities to get a start in cattle ranching and an old family friend gave me a contact that he thought might be willing to give me an internship. I finally sent a text to the contact he gave me, waited about a month and eventually got invited to come up to the ranch and meet the owner and foreman to discuss an internship. They offered me a position and I ended up working there for about 9 months. I learned a ton while I was working there and got the opportunity to work with a lot of different people with a lot of varying knowledge.

That experience was enough to show me that a life in cattle ranching was definitely something that I wanted to pursue and I started considering my next step. A coworker of mine told me about Quivira, and it seemed like an awesome opportunity to see a different side of ranching in a new place. I’m very excited to learn alongside Elin at Music Meadows Ranch this season and I hope that I come out of this apprenticeship a better and stronger person. Â
