How did you get interested in agriculture? And what are you hoping to gain from your apprenticeship?May 2026
I initially developed an interest in agriculture because I think the work of producing food and nourishing people is incredibly important and undervalued. I have always been interested in the agrarian lifestyle, but like most people in our country, I grew up very removed from the awareness of how our food is grown. In college, I had the opportunity to study agricultural science and I started working at an educational horse farm and a dairy. Through my studies and my work experiences, I developed a deep respect for the people who dedicate their lives to the work of growing food, and I fell in love with the physical labor that allowed me to work closely with nature and challenge myself in new ways every day.Â
Although it felt like a risky, unconventional path, I decided I wanted to pursue a life working in agriculture. I spent a year apprenticing on a small-scale farm that practices multi-species rotational grazing and was introduced to the ideas of regenerative agriculture. Through my second year of apprenticeship, I hope to further my knowledge and understanding of sustainable grazing practices and to continue developing the diverse skillset that is essential for making a viable life for myself within agriculture.
