Forest Restoration on the Rowe Mesa Grassbank – A K-12 Curriculum Guide
By Tori Derr and the Quivira Coalition
This curriculum provides opportunities for youth to learn many aspects of science, including some principles of forest restoration, observation and measurement skills, problem solving, and how people are currently influencing the forest where they live. These concepts are part of national and state standards for science literacy. Science literacy includes not just the understanding of scientific concepts, but also the role of science in society. By teaching about aspects of a specific restoration project, we hope to provide a broad opportunity for students to understand both aspects of scientific literacy.”management decisions will increase vegetative cover, control erosion, and improve animal production.
