Quivira is hiring for a New Agrarian Program Alumni & Outreach Manager!

 

The Quivira Coalition is a Santa Fe-based nonprofit that builds resilience on arid working lands. We foster ecological, economic, and social health through education, innovation, and collaboration. The Quivira Coalition aims to shift current practices of agriculture and land stewardship to those that produce good food, support meaningful livelihoods in rural places, sustain biodiversity, and remedy the impacts of climate change. We do this work through agricultural apprenticeship, land and water restoration, and rancher- and farmer-led knowledge exchange. Quivira Coalition’s New Agrarian Program offers 8-month immersive apprenticeships in regenerative agriculture in partnership with mentor ranchers and farmers throughout the West. The program seeks to provide the next generation of producers with hands-on mentoring from dedicated land stewards who practice regenerative methods of food production, provide excellent animal care, and are skilled and dedicated teachers. 

The New Agrarian Alumni & Outreach Manager is a passionate community builder who enjoys identifying opportunities to develop new programming, supporting beginning agrarians and land stewards, and telling the story of apprenticeship and intergenerational learning in agriculture. The NAP Alumni & Outreach Manager is a new position that will add capacity to the growing New Agrarian Program as well as help us support the growing number of NAP alumni as they progress out of apprenticeship and into careers in agriculture. This position requires enthusiasm, adaptability, and strong collaboration skills. In order to help manage NAP’s communication efforts, this position will also serve as the “glue” between NAP and Quivira’s communications team. The ideal candidate for this position is able to engage with a collaborative team remotely; is self-directed, organized, and excited about leveraging technology for effective communication; has a flexible schedule to be available early in the morning, in the evening, and on some weekends to accommodate the schedules of alumni and apprentices; and has the flexibility to travel for up to a week at a time to ranches and farms. This position may be based out of Quivira’s Santa Fe office or remotely; it is full-time and will require some travel.

Working closely with the NAP Team, NAP Alumni & Outreach Manager is responsible for ensuring that the program is effectively communicating and sharing resources with alumni, beginning ranchers and farmers, agrarian mentors, other apprenticeship programs, and the broader community.

This position is responsible for the following work:

Alumni Support

  • Design and conduct evaluation efforts with alumni to identify needs and opportunities related to alumni support
  • Based on information gathered through evaluation process, identify opportunities for alumni program development
  • Maintain a database of alumni contacts, updating the database annually
  • Identify opportunities to engage and connect alumni with the current season of NAP apprentices
  • Coordinate a series of webinars designed to provide technical support to alumni and other beginning ranchers and farmers
  • Support regional program coordinators in fostering professional development opportunities for current season apprentices and alumni
  • Oversee the launch of the the NAP job and community board on the Quivira website, and maintain job board listings

 

Outreach and Communications

  • In collaboration with the NAP director and team, identify outreach goals and coordinate NAP outreach efforts across the program
  • Oversee outreach related to NAP program applications and apprentice recruitment, NAP events, and resources
  • Support the Quivira communications team in their efforts to ensure use of consistent style and branding across NAP outreach materials
  • Coordinate the NAP team to provide relevant content for program communications, including the NAP monthly newsletter, Regeneration Rising podcast, NAP social media, press opportunities, and documentation
  • Develop materials to be used for program promotion, fundraising, and education
  • In partnership with the Quivira communications team, maintain and update content on the NAP section of Quivira’s website
  • Represent Quivira and the New Agrarian Program at relevant events in the community

Required Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm to connect with and support beginning agrarians and land stewards as they pursue careers post-apprenticeship
  • Proficiency with, and enthusiasm for, outreach and communications technology (WordPress or other web design platforms, MailChimp or other newsletter platforms, social media, and Zoom or other video conferencing platforms)
  • Experience incorporating stakeholder feedback to inform design of new program offerings
  • Experience working collaboratively to contribute to nonprofit communications
  • A passion for telling the stories of beginning agrarians and land stewards (with a focus on regenerative livestock/ranching operations) in the dryland West
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, through phone, email, virtual meetings, and in-person meetings.
  • Capacity to work in a team environment with minimal supervision, and with a primarily remote staff
  • Access to reliable internet
  • Valid driver’s license

Desired Qualifications

  • Personal experience with agricultural apprenticeship
  • Experience developing tools for stakeholder feedback and analysing data to inform program direction
  • Photography, design, or creative writing skills
  • Experience with podcast or video production
  • An understanding of how conservation and agriculture have historically and currently impacted Latinx, Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color.
  • Multi-lingual in Spanish or Native languages

Terms of Employment

  • Reports to the NAP director
  • Required availability to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate ranching/ farming schedules
  • 40 hours a week, salaried.
  • Salary range for manager level positions: $44,554 – 60,278 depending on experience. Quivira Coalition uses a Wage Scale to determine hourly wage and salary ranges for all positions within the organization.
  • This position can be based anywhere within NAP’s service region (currently New Mexico, Colorado, and Montana). Exceptional candidates outside of this range may be considered.
  • After 3 months, benefits include health care, dental, vision, simple IRA, paid-time-off, short and long term life insurance and disability policy.
