Find all the workshops, listening sessions, watch parties, mentor trainings, and more all in one place on our new events calendar.
The Quivira Coalition hosts a number of workshops throughout the year for land managers interested in improving or maintaining the health of the land they steward. These workshops usually consist of one to three days on working lands where participants are given the opportunity to learn by doing. Topics can include erosion control, biological monitoring, pasture management, soil health assessment, plant identification, native seed harvesting and more! We partner with multiple individuals and groups — agricultural producers, organizations, state and federal agencies, tribes, and others — to bring a diversity of perspectives and expertise to the conversation. If you would like to partner with us on a land health workshop, please contact our workshops team at email@example.com.

Watch Party – Livestock Compass
February 24 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm MST
An event every week that begins at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until February 25, 2021
Watch Party – Livestock Compass
Wednesdays, February 10 and 24, 2021
For this watch party we will pivot our usual focus on soil health tools, to instead learn about the Livestock Compass: a tool that helps measure the profitability of meat and egg enterprises. We created these watch parties because it’s just more fun and educational to watch videos together. Bring your popcorn and beverage of choice!
The Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems developed the Livestock Compass to support livestock producers in measuring and comparing the profitability of their various enterprises and distribution channels, so they can make more informed and profitable decisions. The Livestock Compass “will be most beneficial for farmers who raise multiple species and who sell their products in multiple market channels…and who are trying to parse out which products and which markets are most profitable. Any Livestock Producer will find the tool useful, however. Dairy farmers will need to wait for our forthcoming Pasture-Based Dairy Compass tool.”
For the first session we’ll get together to watch a pre-recorded webinar put on by the Food Animal Concern Trust, which features the makers of the compass and explains how to use it. Then for two weeks we’ll engage in short activities to help us practice its use. Finally, for the second and final session, we’ll come back together for questions, concerns and experiences. In the final session we’ll be joined by the makers of the Livestock Compass so you can ask questions and give feedback.
Through these watch party gatherings you will learn to:
- Navigate the Livestock Compass Excel spreadsheet.
- Input your production data into the Livestock Compass Excel tool.
- Determine the total cost per product unit of your operation (Ex: lb of meat, dozen eggs, etc.)
- Understand the profitability of each area of your operation.
- Understand your operation’s profitability in each of your distribution channels.
