Badger Creek Ranch Land Health Workshop

Friday, August 16 | 9 am – 5 pm & Saturday, August 17 | 9 am – 1 pm


Join us for two great days of landscape assessment, range planning, and soil conservation at Badger Creek Ranch! This workshop is perfect for ranchers, land managers, beginning agrarians/students, and anyone else looking to improve their skills and knowledge on rangeland management and monitoring.

Tools, gloves, and handouts will be provided during the workshop. Attendees are welcome to camp Thursday and Friday night at the ranch and will be responsible for camping gear and most meals during their stay. Attendees will need to bring lunch on Friday, but will be provided lunch on Saturday.

Rangeland Health Monitoring, Plant Identification & Comprehensive Grazing Planning
Kirk Gadzia of Resource Management Services, LLC

Participants will practice rangeland health monitoring and plant identification in the field, and learn how to create a comprehensive grazing plan.

Soil Conservation & Erosion Control
Aaron Kauffman of Southwest Urban Hydrology

Participants will build erosion control structures through hands-on instruction and learn how to read the landscape to better understand surface water flow and the erosion process.

Upcoming workshops

The Quivira Coalition hosts a number of workshops throughout the year for land managers interested in improving or maintaining the health of the land they steward. These workshops usually consist of one to three days on a working ranch where participants are given the opportunity to learn by doing. Topics include erosion control, biological monitoring, pasture management, soil health assessment, plant identification, native seed harvesting and more. Typically, we partner with one or several ranchers and organizations to bring a number of perspectives and types of expertise to the conversation.
