Editor's Note
"The New Ranch Handbook: A Guide to Restoring Western Rangelands profiles six ranches where ecological and economic improvement have been achieved through creative, progressive management--places the Quivira Coalition refers to as New Ranches. Three practice short duration grazing, and three utilize rest-rotation systems. The Handbook situates these ranchers' practices in a larger discussion of current scientific knowledge and theories about arid and semiarid rangelands. Principles for sustainable, more profitable ranching are developed, along with guidance for applying the principles on the ground. What follows is a highly condensed summary of the scientific argument."
