Virginie Pointeau, New Agrarian Program Director
As we graduated our seventh apprentice in 2011, the program formerly known as CARLY (Conservation and Ranching Leadership and Youth) was rebranded as the New Agrarian Program. This change reflects our support for all types of new agrarians. We also welcome Virginie Pointeau as the New Agrarian Program Director. She earned her BA in Spanish and French in 1996 at the University of Texas, in Austin. She then spent the greater part of 10 years working for Outward Bound in the Minnesota Boundary Waters in the summers and returning to New Mexico each fall. In 2008, she earned her M.S.in Forestry from the University of British Columbia. Wishing to merge her love for people, land health, ecology, and sustainable systems into a single career path she returned to New Mexico and began volunteering at Quivira Coalition restoration workshops. In addition to her work as Quivira's New Agrarian Program Director, Virginie also dedicates her time to restoration activities with Los Amigos de Valles Caldera, a non-profit focused on the development and implementation of stream and riparian restoration projects in the Valles Caldera National Preserve.
